On a pleasant summer evening, Rotary Brockville continued its tradition of hosting a BBQ meal for the campers attending Easter Seals Camp Merrywood, located on the Lower Rideau Lake near Rideau Ferry. Rotary Brockville has been a supporter of Camp Merrywood since it's inception in 1948. Easter Seals Camp Merrywood is a summer camp for kids with polio. The camp can accommodate up to 72 campers per session. It offers a health hut, dining facilities, a music and theater building, a nature building, and a specially adapted swimming pool. As well, Camp Merrywood provides a full waterfront program and activities, such as, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. Other programs also help to fill the daily activities for campers, such as, archery, sledge hockey, arts and crafts, environmental studies, music and drama, pottery, as well as, campfires and dances.
Rotary Brockville is honored to support the camp journey for so many children and their families over the many years it's been involved. This year, Rotary Brockville donated $2.500 to the camper program to support children's ability to attend Camp Merrywood. In addition, a cheque for $3,000 was donated to support ongoing capital projects that support the camper's experience.
